Playtex One-Step Breastmilk Storage Kit

I'm a sahm so I pump for occassional use when I have to be away, usually a few hours once or twice a week. I would say that for the mom who pumps full time or needs to maintain a large freezer stash this product is probably not for you and you would find storage bags a more practical solution. But for the mom who only needs to keep a few feedings' worth of milk saved up this product is perfect. I pump one side while my baby nurses the other and I just keep the sealed liner in the fridge until it's full and then I put it into the freezer. Very easy to thaw and then you just drop the liner into the playtex holder and you are ready to go. Very daddy and grandparent friendly, and I love that I don't have to worry about losing precious milk in the transfer from bag to bottle. I also love that I can now get rid of all the milk storage containers that have been cluttering up my kitchen cabinet.

My only complaint is that the kit only comes with one adapter, so those needing to pump both sides at once would need to purchase two kits. The ability to purchase separate sealing discs and rings, or if the bottles themselves came with sealing discs would also be helpful.

This is the 2nd time I've used this system because it was what my Playtex pump recommended. It's very convenient because you don't have to transfere milk, just pump, store, heat, and eat! The draw backs, they tend to fill up a freezer quickly because they are not very compact for storage. You have to make sure you have enough sealing disks because if not you can't pump and store it. The kits tend to be expensive since you need so many to get a good enough stock going. I wish I'd known before buying these that the Medela pump and store bags fit the Playtex nursers that these fit into which are more compact for storing and work the same way the liners do. They are also WAY less expensive to use since you can get many more bags that self seal (zip-lock type) in a package vs. this kit which only has a few sealing disks. Bottom line, explore other options if you're looking to save money. These are nice but I don't see the difference in convenience between these and the Medela milk storage bags.

I am a teacher, and I needed something that I could pump directly into, put the cap on, and store quickly (we only have 23 minute lunch breaks!). The kit comes with only 4 sealing disks and 1 adapter (which works great with my Ameda pump). At this price, I purchased a couple of kits so that I have two adapters and 8 sealing disks.

If you are planning on bulk storage (I had several months worth of milk saved up before going back to work), then the easiest way of doing this is to buy some gallon size freezer ziplock bags, and after all 8 storage disks have been used (and the milk is frozen), take all of the caps off and move the drop in liners to the freezer bag. It is sooo easy, and you still have the convenience of not having to wash bottles or transfer milk from storage bags into bottles. The daycare just pulls a sleeve of milk out of the ziplock, thaws it out, and it is ready for my son.
