Mother's Milkmate First In/First Out Storage Rack

I purchased this storage system to store bottles of milk in the fridge (I freeze in bags), since I am currently pumping exclusively. The rack is pretty simple in its design, and decently made from coated metal. It comes with 10 bottles with sealer caps (the sealer caps are to prevent leaks and keep out as much oxygen as possible, since oxygen degrades milk quality), which roll from the top front down the back and out the bottom front.

In general, I like this storage rack. It's not perfect and it's not revolutionary in its design, but it has helped me organize milk in the fridge in the first in/first out manner. It helped me utilize space in my fridge, also, so that my entire top shelf isn't dominated by milk bottles. It's neat, compact, and does what it's meant to do.

I wouldn't give this a full five stars because of a few issues. First, the rack has an overly large opening in the back. This means that bottles rolling from top to bottom levels can "hop the rails" and fall off the rack completely. I solved this problem by shoving the rack closer to the back of the fridge, so bottles don't have that sort of room to move. This is great for me, but I can see how this could be problematic if this is not possible. Second, the bottles/caps which come with the rack are boil-to-sterilize only. Since I prefer microwave steam sterilization for its time- and work-saving properties, I find boiling a pain. I tend to gather several bottles before I boil, leaving the rack mostly empty. I've added Ameda milk storage bottles with Dr. Brown's bottle lids, as the bottles with caps fit the storage rack perfectly. The issues I have with the rack are easily solved, but with a few teaks, this would be a much better product.

I bought this to freeze milk but decided it made much more sense to use bags. I wanted a non-disposable option, but it just isn't practical unless you have a very large freezer or only plan to freeze a small quantity. However, I found that the bottles were a great inexpensive set of new pumping bottles. They fit Medela pumps and are very sturdy.

A friend turned me onto this product after I complained that the plastic bags I'd been using to store milk were a total mess from the leakage and cumbersome to handle, especially when transferring from the pump bottle to the bag. This system saves me that step and makes the whole concept of `storing milk' a piece of cake. I actually have 2 sets - one that I keep in the fridge and one that I keep in the freezer. I particularly love the `first in, first out' method of retrieval, since the bags had a tendency of co-mingling and I'd have to rummage through, wasting time and getting annoyed. Having an infant is exhausting - I can't believe I even have time to write this review - but I want other moms to know that this product makes life easier. Another blessing is the simple transfer from being able to attach the bottle to the pumping station then to fridge/freezer then to my child - there's no extra bag or liner to hassle with - the same bottle I use to capture the milk is the same bottle I use to feed my baby - what could be better than that?? Especially considering how many times I spilled precious milk onto the counter while trying to pour it into the bag. This is a good one, moms!!! Go for it!

This is a great way to organise all of you milk bottles from oldest to newest.
