I used a medela with my first child that was a hand me down from one other child. I used it twice a day (am and pm) when I went back to work at 11 weeks and nursed my son at lunch time. After a short time, I noticed that the milk would some how back up into the tubing and get all the way back to the motor that eventually caused it to burn out. I tried everything to keep the milk from doing this but nothing worked and now I see it is a common problem. Plus you have to force the bottles into the holders when you are done and it it's not just right they fall over. I have switched to an Ameda with my second child and am so pleased to have none of these problems.

I purchased this pump several months prior to my daughters birth. Shortly after she was born, I began using it. In less than 1 year, a hole developed in the rubber plastic vacuum cap. Because of this, the pump no longer provided ample suction. I do not know how this even happened because you have to take the pump apart to even see it. The situation got even worse because Medela does not repair this part or offer replacement. Although I had not used the pump for one year, the date of purchase was past one year and that is whats important. To be it is clear that this problem is a product flaw. I am extremely disappointed because I have to purchase a new pump.

This pump is no match for the hospital models |

I bought this pump after using the Medela Lactina at the hospital because I thought I would be getting a smaller version. To me the Pump in Style does not measure up to the hospital rentals. For the price that I paid for this pump I was expecting to receive a quality product but all of the pump parts were very cheap looking and the pump motor was louder than the much stronger hospital pump. I was able to pump 4 to 5 oz. with the rental in about 15 minutes and could barely get an ounce with the PIS in the same amount of time. I also had a difficult time with milk leaking into the pumps tubing and this did not happen with the rental. My advice is if you are really set on using a Medela pump then rent the hospital grade because the Pump in Style does not match the quality or performance.
